"Spy"
Portuguese Water Dog

Spy, a Portuguese Water Dog, was a Fidos volunteer for over eleven years. She was an AKC champion (official name: Champion Scrimshaw's Mata Hari) and a superb ambassador for her breed. She joined Fidos for Freedom as a spirited and feisty youngster who resisted passing the "down/stay" test, but eventually became a marvelous therapy dog whose favorite gig was visiting the adolescent psychiatric unit at Taylor Manor. Spy's temperament and personality made her special. She loved doing tricks for visitors. However, one of her not-so-endearing habits was counter surfing and she taught her human family to keep the kitchen counters cleared of food. Once when they were careless, she stole, opened, and ate a can of sardines! Spy helped train many junior handlers and she also became a calm and focused DEAR dog who loved having children read to her. Her daughter, MayDay, and granddaughter, Izzie, continue her legacy as therapy and DEAR dogs with Fidos.
